Google Introduces SearchWiki
Yesterday, Google released the new search results page that allows you to update the ranking of search results, if you have and are logged into a Google account. This wont effect how other users see search results for your search term, only how you see your results while you are logged into your Google account.
There are two areas for SearchWiki, one area in the search results and another at the footer of your results pages.
SearchWiki in the Results
The first area that you will notice is with the actual search results. You will see a box with an up arrow, this will move a specific result to the top of your listings.
Next to it a box with an “X” in it, this will be used to remove a result from your listings, and it will remain hidden from future searches.
The third wiki-icon you will see is a comment bubble, clicking on this will open a text box, where you can write a comment about the result. You will be able to see this comment anytime the result appears in any future searches.
SearchWiki in the Footer
The second area that the SearchWiki displays is in the footer. This is where you will have the ability to add new results and view or edit existing SearchWiki results.
First you will see a button with the “+” sign in it this will give you the ability to add a results that you may not have found by that specific search term. Simply click the “Add a result” link and input the url address that you would like to have added to your results.
You will also see a link that says “See all my SearchWiki notes”, this will display a screen of all websites that you have posted comments about to promoted and demoted, you are even able to restore the listing to it’s original result. You may also sort through your notes by search term on the left of this page, to find a result that you are looking for.
The next link from your search results page is to “see all notes for this SearchWiki”. This will display any notes that anyone else has submitted.
Finally, you have the option to learn more about SearchWiki by clicking the “learn more” link and going to the Google’s SearchWiki support page.
Keep in mind that using SearchWiki won’t directly affect anyone else’s search results for a particular keyword or keyword phrase, however, when using the “see all notes for this SearchWiki” you will be able to view any notes from anyone who has also used WikiSearch. If there is an issue with inappropriate comments you have the ability to flag the comment for moderation by the Google Team.
